What information do we collect about the consumer and/or customer (“you”)?
We collect non-public personal and financial information from your application or other requests for insurance or products we offer. We may also collect information from other sources such as your prior insurance provider and consumer reporting agencies. This information can include prior loss history, credit or inspection and motor vehicle reports.
What information about you do we disclose and to whom is it disclosed?
MIG does not disclose any information with unaffiliated third parties.
How do we protect your non-public personal information?
Information about you is protected physically, electronically and administratively by procedures we have implemented to ensure its safeguard. Information about you is generally available only within MIG, but where made available to others for purposes relating to the services we provide to you such disclosure is limited to that needed to satisfy the purpose in question. Anyone who is given access to your information by us will be informed of the need to protect and safeguard its confidentiality, and is not authorized to use or further disclose your non public personal and financial information except in furtherance of the purpose for which such person was given the information.
NOTICE TO AGENTS
MIG adheres to strict prohibition against public disclosure by agents of nonpublic personal financial, health or other information in connection with agreements we have with those agents and/or in connection with the services the agents provide for us.
In connection with our agreements with agents and in connection with the services they provide for us, MIG (here thereafter individually and collectively referred to as “we”, “us” or “our”) may have, or will soon be, making disclosures orally, in writing, in electronic format and/or by electronic means to the agent of nonpublic personal financial, health or other information of consumers and customers of ours (herein referred to as “Confidential Information”).
We consider such “Confidential Information” to include all information and documents provided by us to the agent, which contain, reflect or are based upon confidential information. However, by “Confidential Information” we do not mean information which (i) was or becomes generally available to the public in the same form as received from us, (ii) was within the agent’s possession prior to it being furnished to the agent by us or, (iii) became available to the agent on a non-confidential basis from a source other than us and such source is not actually known to the agent to be bound by a confidentiality agreement.
You, the agent, have been, or will be, furnished the “Confidential Information” upon the understanding that you will use the “Confidential Information” only in connection with our agreements with you or the services you are to perform for us. Accordingly, you are not authorized to use or disclose the “Confidential Information” to anyone except as necessary to satisfy your obligations under our agreements and/or services you provide for us.
We expect you, the agent, to inform all persons or entities of the confidential nature to which you have or will disclose the “Confidential Information” so provided, and we further expect you to take reasonable steps to ensure that such persons or entities treat the “Confidential Information” as confidential and without further disclosure.
In the event you are legally compelled to disclose any of the “Confidential Information” in response to proper legal process, please promptly provide us with notice of any such requirement, before making any such disclosure, in time sufficient to allow us to seek a protective order or other appropriate remedy.
